I WORKED at the Bristol Hippodrome from 1979-1985, I was already working three evenings a week at the Theatre Royal as I have always loved the theatre. When a job was advertised for an "advanced – mature clerk" I thought it would suit me as I was in my forties.

On starting the work I discovered it was nothing to do with my age but referred to all the tickets that had been sold. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Hippodrome and made several good friends until new owners took over and I was made redundant.

I loved attending lots of shows – I think the highlights being the ballet and the Queen concert as they have always been one of my favourite groups and I'm so glad I was able to see them live.

Another happy memory is the night Danny La Rue took us all out to supper when he was appearing in the Christmas pantomime.

I was also able to do two bits of extra work in the auditorium – Eddie Shoestring on TV and the film White Nights (I think that was the title).

I continued to work at the Theatre Royal until I retired aged 65 and look back on both jobs with great affection. Lots of experiences I wouldn't have missed for the world.
