Second rapid transit route to Hengrove
This route would be part of £160 million of measures to ease congestion in South Gloucestershire.
The new-style bendy buses would run on a dedicated lane to provide a fast, reliable service from north of the city to the new health complex at Hengrove Park.
It would run through Bradley Stoke, Emersons Green, Stoke Gifford and Aztec West and connect with the first route from the Long Ashton park and ride site into the city centre at Bristol Temple Meads.
Work on this second route could start as early as 2013 and finish in 2016.
Another route from Emersons Green to Bristol Temple Meads is considered longer- term and not expected for completion before 2019/20.
Two other schemes which have been promised funding are more showcase bus routes by 2012 and the Greater Bristol Metro Rail Project which would not be finished until 2019/20.
South Gloucester- shire council leader John Calway and Chair of the West of England Partnership, said: "The four West of England authorities put forward a very strong case to the Government to convince them of the need for major investment in transport in the area.
"I am delighted the Government has understood the importance of these schemes to the region and this announcement is very good news for transport in the area.
"I have no doubt they will have a hugely positive impact for our residents and businesses."
