Tuesday, November 03, 2009, 07:00

Three penalties from James Mackay helped steer Weston-super-Mare to a 14-13 home win over fellow strugglers Reading in National Three South West.

Flanker Daniel Fry claimed a first-half try for the Seasiders.

Cleve were left to reflect on what might have been after going down 14-13 at home to Chippenham, despite a try from Tom Pool converted by Marcus Brooker – who added a penalty. There was also a three-pointer from Joe Hall.

In South West One West, Avonmouth drew 29-29 at Paignton, with full-back Andy Taylor landing two conversions and five penalties.

Centres Sam Thompson and Greg Long touched down for the visitors, who led 16-3 at one stage but were relieved to return home with a point.

Yatton came off second best at Cullompton, going down 33-14 despite George Osborne converting tries by Rhys Davies and Jo Booth.

Leaders Hartpury made it eight from eight with a 53-8 home win over Clevedon, who had an interception try from Joe Kaniecki and a penalty from Ben Hazeldine.

Gary Britt came off the bench to claim the try that clinched Somerset Premier leaders Bristol Harlequins' 25-24 win over Midsomer Norton.

Full-back Scott Manning and left wing Kevin Morgan also scored five-pointers, with Chris Page slotting two conversions and two penalties as Quins, despite being far from their best, made it six out of six.

Gordano and Imperial remain locked at the top of Somerset One after both sides extended their 100 per cent record with away wins.

St Mary's went down 57-3 to Gordano, while Imperial triumphed 30-12 at Broad Plain.

Ian Clark touched down twice as Gloucestershire Under-18s lost 30-22 to Somerset.
