Mangotsfield United win at last

Wednesday, November 04, 2009, 07:00

Three first-half goals gave Mangotsfield United their first League victory since August 22nd, when they beat Frome Town 2-0.

Playing with the advantage of the slope, Mangotsfield took control of the game from the start, with Daine O'Connor wasting an early chance, and the visitors went in front after eight minutes when Kyle Tooze fired in a drive which gave goalkeeper Lloyd Irish no chance.

They increased the lead through defender Neil Arndale, who scored from the penalty spot in the 17th minute after striker Tom Knighton was brought down by Neil Bailey.

Keeping up the pressure on the Taunton defence, Mangotsfield made it 3-0 after 25 minutes, when Knighton sprung the Taunton offside trap and outpaced the two defenders to score with a shot into the top corner.

Taunton manager Paul West introduced striker Leon Simpson at the start of the second half and they went close through Owen Irish but generally made few inroads against a hard-working Mangotsfield defence.

Taunton were reduced to 10 men when Lee Groves was sent off for a second bookable offence after a tackle on Geraint Bater.
