Mangotsfield United draw for shirt sponsor

Friday, July 03, 2009, 07:00

Mangotsfield United are following Bristol Rovers' lead in offering shirt sponsorship for the new season as top prize in a special draw.

The Cossham Street outfit are selling tickets for £200 with the winner getting the opportunity to advertise on the first team shirts for the 2009-10 campaign.

"We saw that this idea worked really well at Rovers, where they sold almost 100 tickets at £1,000 apiece," said Mangotsfield manager Phil Bater. "Obviously we are not in that league but there has been quite a lot of interest in the tickets at £200 and it would be great if we could sell 20-30, or maybe even more.

"We know money is tight at the moment so we reckon this is a good way of raising some money for club funds."

The draw will be made at Mangotsfield's friendly against Stoke City at Cossham Street on Friday, July 31.

Anyone interested in the draw can contact the club.

Yate Town manager Dave Mogg has named Grantley Dicks as his new assistant.

Dicks, the brother of former West Ham defender Julian, was unveiled to the players when they reported back for pre-season training at Lodge Road last night.

"I have known Grantley since I was a 16-year-old trainee at Bristol City so we go a long way back," said Mogg."He is a very loyal, trustworthy and enthusiastic guy, who works very hard and is passionate about the game.

"He was a coach with me at Hallen and has been doing a lot of coaching work in Bristol. He will be a great addition to the club."

Dicks has a wealth of Southern League experience, having played for Bath City, Chippenham Town and Weston-super-Mare and acquired a fearsome reputation as a tough-tackling, fully committed player.

"I think when people get to know Grantley they will see a different side to him," said Mogg.

On the playing front, striker Toby Colbourne has opted not to join the club just yet while Jake Reid, who ended the season for Yate in good form, is having a trial at a League Two club, thought to be Rotherham.

Defender John McAlinden has joined Yate from Western league side Bitton and Bath City youngster Callum Stewart is having a trial.
