The Bristol Post

SO, the first of the political air armada has come into range and through our letterboxes in Bristol, their sales pitch of Labour and the Lib-Dems has assailed our senses and sensibilities.

1. Construction of housing in this ward has begun, against the wishes of the majority of local people. This matter had been sorely opposed by people in this ward.

2. The Mayoral Referendum. It was only by one or two per cent in majority favour. This does not, therefore, command recognised authority but marginal approval and no moral or ethical legitimacy for voting for a mayor of Bristol.

I won't waste time in voting – an expensive irrelevance. I'll wait for the general election instead.

It's not that I'll ever consider Bristol as an irrelevance.

I simply believe that an elected mayor is not relevant to me, as a Bristolian.

I don't recognise its legality – ethically or morally.

“That's your choice to opt out of the democratic process. I don't know how you think electing a national government is any more or less legitimate nor, for that matter, how it would change things to your liking.

See, I voted LibDem at the last general election and as yet have not experienced the results promised in the manifesto. Far from it.

At least the Bristol mayor will be more accountable than those far off politicians in Westminster.”
