Various offers of help came in this week for a distressed Taunton couple under psychic attack in their own home.

I reported last week how the couple I have called Mr and Mrs Jenkinson – they want to keep their identity secret – believe they are being targeted by a witch who has sent a malevolent poltergeist, a "directed dark entity", to terrorise them.

They are afflicted by strange lights, noises and apparitions, and they say the ordeal is making them ill.

Merlin Oliver of Wincanton, Somerset, told me: "I have personally suffered similar experiences as those described and have successfully banished whatever was causing them. After reading the article I was compelled to respond and offer my services."

Members of Taunton New Spiritualist Church say they have helped people in similar situations in the past and will happily help the couple.

Chris Jensen, of Cheltenham, suggests the couple approach the Society for Psychical Research. "The SPR will certainly honour confidentiality and seek no gain from the matter," he said.

Writer and counsellor Palden Jenkins, of Glastonbury, and psychic surgeon Andy Porter, of Chippenham, who also specialises in spirit removal, offered their assistance.

I also received a call from a retired minister of the United Reformed Church in Wiltshire who wanted to reassure the Jenkinsons they were not alone. He knew of similar cases where exorcists of strong and resourceful character had been able to rid homes of evil spirits.

I have passed on all contact details and sincerely hope that Mr and Mrs Jenkinson will be able to find a way out of their unhappy situation.
