Shutting Portway for a few cyclists is madness

Saturday, June 27, 2009, 07:00

Where do they get these ideas from? You only have to go along the Portway on a Sunday to see how much it is used.

The road planners have already managed to cut capacity by putting in a bus lane which sees one or two buses an hour in the week plus the odd cyclist or two and this councillor wants to shut the Portway for a few cyclists to use. What's wrong with the pavement? – that's what the cyclists normally use.

This is a main arterial highway into the city – would they also like to shut off the A37, A38 and A4 from Bath because they also have nice scenic stretches.

I can imagine the good folks on the diversionary routes will be very pleased with this suggestion.

Whitchurch.

Manchester is getting a congestion charge, and Bristol could also have one by 2014? Do you think it will work in Bristol?
