Young people and their families have been invited to learn more about life in the Army.

For the first time, a Junior Entry Day will be held in Bristol on Saturday, October 24, to highlight career opportunities to give people the chance to talk to serving soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Simon Johns, of 43 Wessex Brigade, who is in charge of recruitment in the South West, said: "There is no commitment but there will be plenty of information on offer about what life is like working for the Army and the many options open to people who are considering joining."

Young soldiers from Bristol who have joined the Army include 16-year-old Nathan Eamer.

He is an ex-pupil of the former Lawrence Weston School in Portway and is doing his basic training in Hampshire.

"At the moment there aren't too many jobs around in civilian life so I thought I would look at what the Army has to offer," he said.

"It is a good career path to follow and I know I will come out of the Army with a trade skill at the end.

"At the moment I am looking into joining the military police or learning to become a driver.

"Training is tough but exciting and you build-up good fitness and discipline levels."

The event will take place at the Army Careers Office, 4 Colston Avenue, between 9am and 3.30pm.
