Friday, October 02, 2009, 07:00

A 60-year-old Bristol man was treated for shock by paramedics after his car was burned out on the drive of his house.

The Peugeot 307 was completely gutted after it was targeted by arsonists at 3.20am yesterday outside the house on Somerdale Avenue, Knowle, leaving the driveway littered with glass and debris.

Heat from the fire also caused paint to bubble on a Vauxhall Corsa parked nearby.

Firefighters from Brislington and Temple stations tackled the blaze, but flames spread to the house.

The fire was so fierce that it warped and charred a downstairs uPVC window, shattering it.

It also burned guttering and the house's fascia, and broke an upstairs window.

Smoke spread to the house, which suffered smoke damage in he bedroom and roof.

Yesterday morning police and fire investigators examined the car to ascertain the cause of the blaze, but are regarding it as suspicious.

Wayne Baker, from Avon and Somerset police, said: "Crime scene investigation officers were called to the house yesterday morning.

"The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious."
