We knew we would bounce back, says Bristol City's Skuse

Cole Skuse is confident supporters will see the real Bristol City in the wake of Tuesday's revitalising 3-1 victory at Leicester.

That result came as a surprise even to diehard City fans, many of whom questioned the ability of the manager and team during a winless five-match sequence which saw the Robins plummet to halfway in the Championship.

But Academy product Skuse, who marked his return to a central midfield role by scoring one goal and making another, insists the players never doubted their capacity to bounce back from adversity.

And he believes victory at the Walkers Stadium will inspire City to show their true colours when they take on Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium today.

"I can understand why a few people back at home might have been surprised by the result at Leicester," said Skuse.

"We'd gone through a bit of a sticky patch and it had been a while since we had won a game. Leicester are a good side and we knew in the back of our minds that they were coming off the back of a 5-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest and had a point to prove. I don't think too many people gave us a chance.

"But we felt we had played some good football in the last couple of games against Sheffield United and Ipswich and that things were close to clicking into place.

"We've had poor runs before in the Championship and always bounced back and we knew we could do it again. The club motto is always believe and we were always confident things would come right.

"We just added that final little ingredient at Leicester and everything worked for us. I thought our shape was good, our hold up play among the front men and our movement was excellent and we were solid at the back.

"Our work-rate and pace were fantastic and we showed what we can do. There cannot be too much wrong if you can come to a place like Leicester and win 3-1."

“Nice try Cole, but it looks like the rot is a bit more deep-rooted than we originally thought.”

“They certainly did at the Keepmoat!”
