Bob takes to delivery beat to support Bristol policy awards

Monday, October 26, 2009, 07:00

Good neighbour Bob Eastaugh has literally gone an extra mile in support of the Avon and Somerset Community Policing Awards 2009.

The neighbourhood watch co-ordinator from Keynsham set a sterling example by hand-delivering 170 nomination forms to people in his, and adjoining streets, encouraging them to take part.

Since January, Mr Eastaugh, 66, has been running the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Charlton Drive, where he lives, as well as nearby Lays Drive, Caroline Close and Glebe Walk. From now on, he will be focusing on Charlton Drive, having shown other volunteers how it's done.

Mr Eastaugh said: "I think the awards are a brilliant idea because it should be recognised how hard the police work.

"The Special Constables and PCSOs do very, very good work and since I've been running the neighbourhood watch I've got to know them all well."

The former Cadbury's worker, who has been married to Anne for 42 years, is now an award-winning butcher for Asda in Longwell Green, working one day a week.

Despite serious back problems, he is always seen out and about chivvying his neighbours and getting things done.

"I wanted the community to come together and it has done," he added.

People still have time to put forward their favourite officers and police staff.

The Evening Post is one of the sponsors of the awards, for which the categories are Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year, PCSO of the Year, Special Constable of the Year, Neighbourhood Team of the Year and the Outstanding Customer Service Award.

Readers can get a form from the Evening Post reception, Temple Way, Bristol. Forms are also available at police stations, in Waitrose stores or at www.community policing- awards.org.uk

The nominations will be reviewed by an independent panel and winners will be selected for each of the six policing districts – Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Somerset West and Somerset East.
