We're hungry for a long run in the cup, says Ashton manager Smith
ASHTON & Backwell United boss Shane Smith believes his squad are hungry for a cup run and wants them to use the momentum from their league form to help them progress when they play Clevedon United this weekend.
The team have won three of their last four games and with a number of experienced players, including top goalscorer Nathan Rendall, returning for their Premier Division Cup match, boss Smith believes his team looks stronger than ever.
Smith said: "Everyone is hungry to play – I have 20 lads turning up to training all wanting to play. We had a tough match against Watchet last weekend, but we played well and continue to score goals."
The boss also heaped praise on his younger players, who blossomed after a number of the senior players were missing through injury.

He said: "The younger players have played very well, which makes my job of picking the squad even harder once the older players return."
The winners of Ashton and Backwell United's game against Clevedon United will play at home to either Cutters Friday or Ilminster Town.
Elsewhere in the cup, Nailsea United look to continue their impressive form when they host Larkhall Athletic Reserves, while Banwell host Cutters Friday and Fry Club are at home to Nailsea Town. In the league, St George (EIG) can move off the foot of the table if they beat Bridgwater Town Reserves. Stockwood Green will look to get back to winning ways when they host Odd Down Reserves.
