Asbo man banned from whole of Portishead

A man has been banned from the whole of Portishead on his release from prison.

Ricky John Green, 25, of no fixed abode, has been banned from the whole town in what is thought to be the first time such action has been taken in the Avon and Somerset police area.

Green appeared before Bristol Magistrates' Court in November to face a string of offences, including assaulting a police officer, public disorder and attempted theft.

Green, who was found guilty of the offences, was jailed for eight months in December and made subject to a post-conviction Asbo, issued by magistrates on the request of the police, which bans him from entering the town.

The Asbo comes into force from Saturday, when Green, who has a history of drug and alcohol abuse, is released from prison early on licence.

The order states that Green, an habitual criminal, is banned from the whole of Portishead, specifically from the large tree at Walton-in-Gordano to the end of the Portbury Hundreds, where it joins the M5.

Police have been putting up posters – featuring Green's face, date of birth and details of the Asbo – in certain areas of the town as well as leafleting local homeowners, urging them to contact police if they see him in Portishead.

The leaflets have been delivered predominantly in the Queens Avenue area of the town – where Green used to stay with his partner Coren Davis.

Leaflets have also been delivered to homes at West Hill and to a number of businesses along the High Street as well as Gordano School – all areas that Green is known to frequent.

It is the first time that police in the town have used posters and leaflets to highlight to local residents that a person has been banned from entering the town because of an Asbo.

However, similar orders have been used in Weston-super-Mare, banning problem offenders from certain parts of the resort.

North Somerset Police's anti-social behaviour co-ordinator, Terry Crees, said: "Ricky Green is bad news for Portishead.

"This man has caused problems for the people in Portishead and this Asbo prevents him from coming into the area.

"We want to give the community reassurance that we have done something about the issue and we don't want this individual returning to Portishead."

Portishead beat officer PC Matt Christie said: "This is the first time police in Portishead have used the tactic of putting up posters and dropping leaflets warning of an individual. The offences that Ricky Green was arrested for were of a violent nature.

"Potentially there is a risk of further anti-social behaviour being committed which may cause distress and harassment to the people of Portishead.

"He risks arrest and could be returned to jail if he breaches the order made against him.

"We are urging the local residents to become our eyes and ears and if they see Mr Green breaking the terms and conditions of his Asbo they should contact police immediately.

"Residents can be safe in the knowledge that we will protect their privacy and that they are helping to make the area of Portishead a safer place."

Green, who originally hails from Bath, used to stay at the property owned by North Somerset Housing Association at Queen's Avenue with Miss Davies.

Last year Green and Davies, 35, were given an anti-social behaviour injunction following a catalogue of complaints about the couple's behaviour.

The hearing, at Weston County Court last November, was told how the couple lured teenagers back to their home and plied them with drink and drugs.

The year-long injunction, bought by North Somerset Housing, prevented both Green and Miss Davies from going within 100 yards of Gordano School. It also states that Miss Davies must not visit West Hill and Green cannot go into any North Somerset Housing property, which includes Queen's Avenue and West Hill.

The order also said that the pair must also refrain from causing a nuisance of displaying threatening or violent behaviour towards any of their neighbours.

It is understood that Miss Davies is currently being threatened with eviction from the property.
