Car hits pedestrians in Keynsham crash

Two people were injured when a car mounted the pavement and ploughed into the front of a greengrocers in a horrific crash in Keynsham.

The car, a Skoda Octavia, went out of control just after 1.30pm today.

It went across the roundabout at the top of the High Street and hit a man walking along the pavement before smashing into the front of S K Fruits.

No customers or staff were injured.

The High Street and shop were very busy at the time.

The man who was knocked down by the car suffered suspected neck and back injuries.

He was taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital by ambulance.

Police said his injuries were not life threatening.

An elderly woman who was in the Skoda suffered neck injuries. It is understood she was the driver of the car.

She was also taken to the RUH.

The car smashed the front window of the shop.

Martin Clarke, 37, manager of SK Fruits at 66 High Street, Keynsham, said: "The car is still in the front of the shop.

"A man was hit by the car when it mounted the pavement.

"None of the customers or staff was injured, thank God.

"It could have been a lot worse. I'm still shaking."
