A Bristol animation student has achieved a double success in making films to promote safe sex to young people.

Peter Kimball-Evans's film Uh-oh Jimmy, a tongue-in-cheek take on old fashioned public information films, has won a £2,000 prize from the Terrence Higgins Trust.

The film, in which Jimmy unwittingly passes on an STI to his girlfriend after a one-night stand with another girl, will be used as part of an online campaign.

Peter, a second-year student at the University of the West of England, is also part of a team of 13 who worked with South Gloucestershire Council, NHS South Gloucestershire and the Terrence Higgins Trust to create an animated film to promote the use of condoms to fight the spread of HIV.

The film, Safer Txt, was voiced by actor Rik Mayall. A free DVD of the film is available to all local authorities and organisations that can make use of it.

Gill Sandford, head of the Bristol School of Animation at UWE, said: "The students really responded well to the challenges of both of these projects bringing their creative flair to help to communicate serious messages."
