Bristol music tutor shortlisted for Learning and Skills award
Dan Jeffries is up for the Learning and Skills Improvement Service Star award, after developing an online learning website for students at UK music college, Access To Music (ATM).
Mr Jeffries, 32, who lives off Park Street and teaches at the ATM in Hengrove, was diagnosed with Acromegaly - a condition that normally involves a tumour on the pituitary gland - by Bristol University medical students after he volunteered to let them take a look at an eye condition.
After a tricky operation to remove the tumour Mr Jeffries also contracted meningitis.
He said: "You could say I'm quite lucky to be alive. I made it my mission that I was going to turn my life around after that."
Mr Jeffries, who is also a musician and DJ in the city, was one of 2,000 names put forward for the awards.
He has been whittled down to the final 10 in his category of 'support role' and will find out whether he has won at an awards ceremony next month.
