Bristol cancer charity fundraiser

Monday, November 16, 2009, 07:00

A rock 'n' roll night in support of causes associated with fighting lung cancer in Bristol raised £650.

The event, held at Little Stoke Social Club, sold out within hours of tickets going on sale.

Money raised through the dance on Saturday has gone to the A1 Lung Cancer Group, which supports people battling the disease and their families.

The group also organises events to raise money for cancer causes in the city.

The social club was at full capacity for the rock 'n' roll dance and raffle.

Social club chairman Tim Hewer provided the disco for free to help the cause.

Don Howse, who first became involved with the group when he had cancer, said: "It all went great and we raised £650, which was amazing. We were really pleased. When we put the gift aid on top of that it will be about £800.

"It feels like putting something back and I get a real kick out of it."
