1962: Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser became the first woman to swim 100 metres in under one minute when she clocked a time of 59.9 seconds.
2000: Britain's Tanni Grey-Thompson won her fourth gold medal of the Paralympics in Sydney when she cruised to victory in the T53 classification of the women's 400 metres in a time of 58.74 seconds.
2008: Martin Johnson appointed lock Steve Borthwick as England's rugby union captain.
