This is Bristol

I WAS interested to see the picture of HMS Flying Fox beached in 1973 (BT, April 12) and awaiting the breaker's yard.

My uncle WG (Bill) Burt joined the RNVR Bristol Division in 1908, served afloat during the war of 1914-1918 as an ERA (engine room) and was severely wounded in action in 1917.

Employed as a steam fitter with GWR at Bath Road shed, he continued with the RNVR based at HMS Flying Fox.

He married my mother's sister Esme Cole in 1915, and died in 1955.

I would be very interested to hear from anybody who remembers him either from the RNVR or from GWR Bath Road.
