Sian leads Gloucestershire into EGU ladies final
Revelling in the perfect conditions on her home course, she crushed all opposition, claiming four foursomes wins and five singles successes.
Her winning margins included a 9 and 7 success over Harriet Legg (Dorset) and 8 and 6 victories over both former European Ladies Tour winner Bev New (Lansdown, Somerset) and Sarah Taylor (Cornwall).
Captain Sue Reeve, from Minchinhampton, was full of praise for all of her team, who beat the five other West counties and now meet Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Warwickshire for the national title at Pleasington on September 14-18.
Sue said: "Sian's was an absolutely fantastic performance – she was in a class of her own.
"Yet it wasn't as easy as it looked and we only beat Dorset in the final match on the first day. But golf was always to a very high standard."
Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton) won all her singles, and 14-year-old county champion Shelby Smart (Knowle) was a revelation and won five matches out of eight.
The other youngsters, 14-year-old Bethan Popel (Long Ashton) and 18-year-old Jamie Lee Casling (Brickhampton Court), also made winning debuts.
With further contributions from the experienced Jo Hodge (Knowle), Alison Kelly (Cirencester) and Linda Carruthers (Broadway), the one disappointment was Leah Occleshaw (Players Club) who spent £1,000 to return from Canada where she is now living. She suffered an ankle injury in her first match and was then rested until the final day.
Gloucestershire should be strengthened by the inclusion of Knowle's Hannah Barwood for the finals.
She missed the week as she was making her debut on the Ladies European Tour at Portmarnock links in Ireland.
After a disappointing six-over-par 78 in the first round she produced a greatly improved 74 on the second day and only missed the cut by two shots.
Somerset, who lost 5.5-3.5 in the crucial third day match against Gloucestershire, were runners-up on 3.5 points followed by Dorset, 3, Devon, 2, Cornwall 1, Wiltshire 0.5.
Somerset captain Amanda Mayne, from Saltford, felt the narrow defeat to Gloucestershire was the vital moment of the week.
