John May took another step towards securing the Remedies Bar Motocross Championship after winning two of the three races in the Broadhembury Club's round at Wrangway Cross, near Wellington, on Sunday.

He is now more than 150 points ahead of George Davis, who moved up from third as reigning champion Andrew Gillett was a non-starter.

May displaced early leader Aaron Poolman after six laps in the first race and went on to win by seven seconds.

He then led the second race from start to finish, but fell twice in terrible conditions in the final race and was never able to challenge for the win.

Darren Shears won the last two 125/250 races after finishing fifth in the first encounter when his exhaust fractured.

Bristol's Rod Melksham won the two major solo finals in the Bridgwater Club's grass track meeting at Spaxton.

Paul Derrick gave him plenty of anxious moments in the national final, but it was Wimbourne's Dean Cutler who chased him hard throughout the Open final. Ivor Mathews and Rick McAuley won the main sidecar final.

Jason Hamblin took the North Somerset Club's timed and observation trial at Charterhouse on Mendip by two marks from Wessex Centre champion Shane Lovatt.

Both lost 11 marks on observation, but Hamblin had a faster time.
