We are giving it all we've got, says Bristol City's Orr
Bristol City's Bradley Orr launched an impassioned defence of his side following criticism from supporters in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw at home to Peterborough.
Bristol City have developed a habit of conceding late goals and allowed Posh to level in the last minute at Ashton Gate.
-

Orr said: "There was a fan shouting on to me at the end, saying I should be ashamed of myself.
"Me and all the lads are giving everything we have got.
"I am the first to hold my hands up and say my quality needs to be better and I am working on it day-in and day-out along with all the other lads. First and foremost, I am a defender and part of a back four that is the second best in the Championship.
"Going forward I need to be better at picking people out, but you tell me how many full-backs in the Premier League set up chances week-in and week-out? There's not many and that's where we are trying to get.
"We are sitting two points off fourth in the league and I have just taken a little bit of stick myself off a fan which is fair enough.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion – that is what football is – a game of opinions.
"But all I want to say is this is the best squad I have ever been involved in at Bristol City and at the minute it just seems to be negative feedback.
"You have to give Peterborough credit. On another day we would have won and maybe the feedback wouldn't have been so negative.
"It seems like it is the end of the world and it disappoints me to hear some of the comments.
"We are all giving 100 per cent. I don't think you can fault our effort and on another day we would have got three points.
"I just feel the majority of the fans are brilliant, but there are a couple who are so negative in their feedback. I just think it is a little bit over the top.
"Peterborough have probably gone away deserving a draw so we will have to look forward to Plymouth on Tuesday."

“Thats all I want from any of our fans Marcus. More cheer and less groan.
I know the players and the manager need to get us cheering but likewise the team needs us to get behind them at ALL times...Not just when we are playing well and winning.
I'll go for 2-0 City against Plymouth and I will be looking out for your positive comments on Wednesday.
C'MON YOU REDS.”

“Mike.
What do you expect me to say? Im just being honest, I could sugar coat it for you if you like but what would that achieve?
Things have been getting gradually worse since the last 1/4 of last season.
You say I only comment when there something negative to say well that seems to be most weekends at the moment, Id love nothing more than for my club to be successful and at the moment Gary looks unable to fulfill this task. If we'd of won against Scunny and Peterborough we'd be third now! These points we are dropping are costing us and when we are just short again at the end of the season and finish 9th it's these matches you have to look to. Wake up Mike and realise these results are damaging. We hhave to beat Plymouth as I don't see us taking anything away to a inform Barnsley .
Plymouth tomorrow night and Im not even looking forward to it because I know exactly what the side will be and exactly how the match will pan out.
0-0
1-0
1-1
0-1
Which one are you going for tomorrow mike? I fancy 1-0 City.
BTW Im such a bad supporter Ill be at Barnsley on Saturday cheering on the team!”

“Well Marcus, you happen to be a prime example of the type of 'fan' that I was talking about.
You are very quick to criticise when we have had a poor weekend, yet your comments are nowhere to be seen when we get a good result.
If you and these 5 lads don't wish to re-new your season ticket's, then fair enough that is your right... but It will be a sad day in City's history if ever the management or players start to be influenced yours, and many other 'fans', constant negativity
You have very short memories.”

“@Mike
on the contrary my friend. I hope the manager does read this and fully understands how boring and crap things have become. I m complete cheesed off at watching the same dull lacklustre performace week in week out.
I tell you if it continues I know of at least 5 lads I meet up with down the pub who will not renew ST next season.
I 'd rather watch park football for free, at least it would be entertaining.
The only thing clueless down the gate at the moment is Gary 'let's play a team of central midfielders' Johnson
I crave a good cross from the by-line!
Why the hell did he sign Clarkson?”

“As a veteran supporter of many years I seriously hope the players and manager do NOT read these comments boards.
Most of the time you have clueless 'fans' moaning and complaining about anything other than 3 points from every single game. These people never visit these pages when City do have a good result. It is as if these 'fans' don't know how to praise anything or be positive with their support.... maybe they weren't cuddled enough by mummy when they were kids.
Another draw is disappointing. Admittedly, the display wasn't great on Saturday. However, people shouting abuse at the players and also to comment on these pages that GJ isn't the man to take this club forward, only shows the complete lack of intelligence that a lot of our 'fans' have.”

“As a veteran supporter of many years, I hope Bradley Orr reads these comments put in by the readers.
Most supporters around me in the Dolman Stand do not for one minute doubt the efforts being put in by the players.
Our main frustration is that we probably have the strongest squad we have had for a long time, but we are not achieving what this class of players are capable of.
Most agree that this is mainly down to team selection, and tactics by the manager. The choice of four central defenders on Saturday, with some being played out of position was ludicrous, and this against a team near the foot of the table. Also to start with a player who had spent the previous week travelling halfway around the globe, while Clarkson and Hayes sat on the bench was both puzzling and frustrating.
No one likes to be over critical, and are appreciative of what we have achieved over the last few seasons, but the management must get rid of this negative approach all the time.”

“We are there to support so i`m sure there are many breaching that classification on matchdays. Wise words from some on here but lets remember GJ chooses the team we support the team and we all have the choice not too if need be. As far as the crowd numbers i do believe this is not just down to how we play football as many other teams are lacking numbers this season.”

“James, South West
The problem is that Steve Lansdown has backed the manager MASSIVELY this summer and seriously increased the wage bill of this club with the aim of "getting promotion"
you don't sign players like Hartley, Sno and Sabrino to have an average season, you sign them to get your club promoted because they have the extra quality needed.
The Manager seems unable to get the best out of his players at the moment due to the same problems that haven't been addressed from the last season or so which is
Condeding Late Goals and throwing away points with Negative Tactics
That's the problem, no one has a problem with dropping points against the likes of Scunny and Peterboro - However the manner in which we do it is the problem.
Negative, Unattractive and Narrow Football which is driving the crowds away in large number.
The players get the support on a matchday without doubt from the crowd, however at the end of the game, you have to point the finger at the moment who is doing a poor job.
You can also say. Look how far we have come, but you can also say..... Look how much Johnson has spent you can't spend that sort of money and not expect some sort of success.
For people saying.....we are only a little club who are punching above their wait.
Please look at Blackpool who got promoted at the same time as us.
Smaller budget, smaller crowds. Currently flying high in 5th place.
Gary Johnson - Shape up or get out. Simple.”

“Hear Hear James.
Whilst I don't for a minute assume to stop people having thier own opinion and their say, it would be nice for people to realise just how far we've come as a club and appreciate what we've got at the moment.
And as for some idiot in Canada telling Bradley Orr he isn't giving 100%, that's like me telling Barack Obama how he should deal with the problems he's facing in Congress with Law 21b in the state rules of Ohio.
Shut up unless you can say something constructive and with some knowledge.
To the others who obviously do go and know a bit more about what's going on...yes it's frustrating, but let's take stock of where we are and appreciate what we do have. We aren't the finished article, and yes it's a real pain losing late goals and points, but maybe the team senses the nervousness in the late stages at home now - let's get behind the team instead of waiting for the worst to happen and criticising individuals - maybe then we'll see a turn-around in fortunes?”

“I'm a City fan of many decades standing and just before the season started suggested this sort of moaning from fans would happen.
I don't like saying it but City fans are amongst the most fickle in the country (and always have been in my experience) where fickleness is almost an art form within football followers generally.
This management and board have done tremendous things in recent years but fans have short memories. They forget all those seasons of trying and failing narrowly to get out of Div 3 (for that's what it still is despite the fancy title).
Gary Johnson's biggest 'mistake' was to almost get the club into the Premier League at the first attempt. Expectations were raised to a huge degree, almost entirely without foundation, that City were one of the clubs just waiting to reach the top tier.
They aren't - yet! The squad is still not balanced enough and off-field infrastructure needs improving - the hoped-for new ground will add a new dimension.
I forecast that any sluggish period this season would bring out torrents of critiicism from supporters with unreasonable expectations.
If they are honest with themselves fans will accept this is another stepping stone season. Promotion is highly unlikely but the important thing is to keep the momentum building. The end of next season might not see the Prem either, but if everyone sticks together the club will inexorably gain strength so that within three years they should be ready for a realistic challenge for promotion and better set up to stay up.
I know the football is uninspiring at the moment but the club is in the top half of the table for goodness sakes.
For over a hundred years Bristol City has under-performed and when a brief period of better days did appear it didn't last. This time we must ensure that it does, so what is another two or three years after a century of mediocrity? Patience everyone!”
