Monday, October 05, 2009, 07:00

Women barbershop singers entertained shoppers in Bristol to raise cash for cancer charity Macmillan.

The Avonbelles Ladies Barbershop Chorus went through their routines in a Sing Out session in Broadmead.

The event was followed by a Barbershop and Bingo event in St Theresa's Social Club, Filton, bringing the amount collected by the group to £600.

Avonbelles have been singing since 1975, meeting for rehearsals every week in the Argyle and Morley United Reformed Church in Fishponds and staging a number of concerts every year.

There are currently 40 members from areas in and around Bristol, from Yate and Kingswood to Clevedon.

Spokeswoman Pearl Conway said: "We belong to the Ladies' Association of British Barbershop Singers, which is supporting Macmillan throughout the year."
