A last-race spill robbed Bristol's John May of a hat-trick of wins in the West of England club's round of the Remedies Bar Motocross Championship near Newton Abbot, Devon, on Sunday.

He also fell in the early stages of the first race on the slippery Whiteway Barton circuit, but he fought back to pass George Davis and Aaron Poolman inside four laps.

He led the second encounter from start to finish, leaving Davis and Josh Wyatt to dispute the minor positions.

May was at the back of the field following a fall in the final race, but dashed through to finish third.

Swindon grass racer Charlie Saunders was in unbeatable form in the Somerton club's storm-lashed meeting near Street, in Somerset.

On a slushy Asney Road circuit, he dominated the National Licence Holders and South West Centre title rounds.

Bristol's John Weeks was head and shoulders above his rivals in the 350c races and Neil Owen and Kevin Colburn dominated the 1000cc sidecar races.

Thirty four of the 140 starters in the Taunton club's long-distance Jubilee trial failed to make the finish.

Gavin Moore lost only a dozen marks to win the event by three from Somerton club-man Gary Marshman.

Matt Ridgeway was a clear winner of the BSSA's two-hour timed and observation trial at Beaconsfield Farm, West Harptree, where only three of the 53 starters managed to complete 16 laps of a challenging circuit that became more difficult in the final hour, following storms.
