In celebration of Benjamin Britten's centenary year, Bristol University Operatic Society is proud to announce a fiery production of one of his most celebrated operas...

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Come along and be lured into a phosphorescent jungle - a world of magic, passion and torment. Following a fierce confrontation with his fairy Queen, Oberon’s bitter jealousy moves him to vengeance. The oligarch's actions upset the natural order of things and effect all who dwell beneath the lush canopy, from four searching lovers to the endemic Amazonian warrior-fairies. Perhaps most unlikely of all, a band of rustics find their leading man transformed into an ass and used as the vessel for Oberon's retribution!

With generous support from the Britten-Pears Foundation and a cast and orchestra made up of 50 of the university's finest musicians, BOPS looks set to show its great strength with this highly ambitious and colourful masterpiece.
