We enjoyed a great community fair
I am writing to congratulate Bristol Community Housing Foundation (BCHF), the community-based housing association based in Horfield and Lockleaze, for its excellent community fair held last Saturday at Eden Grove, Upper Horfield.
Local councillor Rosalie Walker and I, along with 300 or so residents, attended fantastic demonstrations of local performance talent, ate Somali, Irish and English cooking, and saw wonderful sculpture and artwork from Monks Park school children and others.
Upper Horfield still has some anti-social behaviour problems, but the fair clearly demonstrates how a large housing regeneration project can succeed (with more than 1,000 new homes built), make a start on tackling that very long Bristol city housing waiting list, and that with good will and hard work (especially from unpaid tenants and residents) it is possible to create a new community which can be a good place in which to live.
I hope the council will give every support to BCHF in its future plans.
Sam Townend, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Bristol North West.
