Bristol primary celebrates improving Ofsted report
Inspectors who visited last month rated the school good overall and said it had been on "journey of rapid improvement" over the last two years.
In a letter to the 204 pupils, the Ofsted team said: "You go to a good school. Teaching is good and helps you to learn and achieve well. We were impressed by the very positive attitudes that most of you have to learning. Your behaviour is good and you attend well."
The inspectors said good quality teaching was helping children to make rapid progress.
They praised head teacher Simon Botten for "confident and robust leadership, which has successfully encouraged staff to have high aspirations for their pupils."
Children were given clear guidance on how to improve through marking and individual targets, the Ofsted team noted. Leadership of teaching and learning was rated as outstanding. Good use of the school grounds to develop children's environmental awareness, the range of the 12 extra-curricular clubs and the frequent enrichment activities and trips were also praised.
Relationships within the school were highlighted as a strength.
"Pupils' good social development is shown in their confident, friendly manner, cooperative working and in the way that many older pupils support and help younger ones," the report said.
The inspectors were impressed when they were told by children: *We don't back away from things or moan about things we have to do".
Links with parents and the role played by the governing body were also highlighted.
The report highlighted two key areas for Christ Church Primary to develop further (both of which had already been identified by the school):
■To improve opportunities for the most able children, including through providing more opportunities for independent work using computers'
■To develop links within the immediate community and further afield to develop children's cultural understanding.
Mr Botten said: "This is a very pleasing report which reflects what a good school Christ Church is. We have fantastic children and staff here who work hard and aim for excellence.
"That said, we are not complacent and are now working to ensure that our next inspection judges us as 'outstanding' – it is, after all, no less than our young people deserve"
Chairwoman of governors the Rev Patricia Willis said: "I am pleased that the school got the result that it deserved.
"My thanks to the staff, parents, children and governors who've worked so hard to make Christ Church such a good school.
"It's great to walk around the school and see children so excited by learning."
