Yate school needs help to build community hall
St Mary's Church of England Primary wants to create a memory wall within the scheme so the names of anyone linked with the school can be included.
It will also bring in funds to help pay for the work as each memory brick carrying someone's name will be sponsored.
The hall is likely to cost in the region of £500,000 and once in use will be open not only for the school to use but also community groups in the Yate area.
Details of the scheme are still at the planning stage but the school and its Friends group want as many people as possible to be involved and have appealed for those interested to get in touch.
A community event will also be held next summer as part of the proposal to bring the past, present and future of the school together.
Head teacher Mary Baskerville said: "We know Yate and the surrounding area is full of former pupils and staff, some who have left fairly recently and others who were pupils more than half a century ago.
"We have an exciting opportunity to bring all these people together to create a lasting piece of history and we are keen to involve everyone that we can."
St Mary's has an active art club and it is hoped the children will be involved in coming up with ideas for what should go on the sponsored bricks.
Anyone who wants to help with the project can email the school at stmarysyate@hotmail.co.uk or call 01454 867155.
