Weston College Roman skeleton discovery goes under the spotlight

Saturday, October 31, 2009, 07:00

A Roman skeleton discovered during an archaeological dig at Weston College's campus is being examined by experts.

Students unearthed the bones during an excavation of the Hans Price Building at the Knightstone Campus in September.

Hans Price was the architect responsible for much of the development in Weston-super-Mare during the Victorian era.

The building, which was designed by and named after Mr Price, was used as an art school and the college is renovating it into performing arts centre.

However, during the dig stone foundations of a large Roman building were found, along with the well-preserved skeleton of an adult.

It was found curled up on its side in a crouched position in a shallow pit dug in the sand.
