Swindon Supermarine are denied

Sunday, December 21, 2008, 23:25

Swindon Supermarine were within minutes of taking all three points from Southern League leaders Farnborough.

The game was deep into stoppage-time when Farnborough snatched an equaliser which keeps them four points clear of Supermarine at the head of the table.

The hosts went in front on 12 minutes when Steve Cook scored from the penalty spot after Ashley Edenborough had been brought down in the box.

Supermarine were indebted to goalkeeper Matt Bullman, who kept out Darren Wheeler and Mark Gamble, but after Mark Draycott had shot wide for the hosts in the second half, the equaliser finally came when Gamble out-jumped a packed home defence to nod home a back-post corner.

Gloucester City took a point from their trip to Hitchin, which ended 1-1, with both sides reduced to 10 men.

Cheltenham Town loanee Lewis Fathers put through his own net after two minutes, but Gloucester were level just before half-time when Ashley Thomas headed home.

Both sides had a man sent off in the second half after a melee resulting from a foul by Hitchin's Ollie Thorne.

He was sent off, as was Gloucester midfielder Matt Rose.

The Division One South & West game between Truro City and Bishop's Cleeve ended goalless.
