Portishead rock school places up for grabs

Friday, August 07, 2009, 07:00

Organisers of a summer rock school in Portishead are urging teenagers to sign up quickly as places are starting to fill up.

The Rock School is being held at the youth centre at Harbour Road from August 17 to 26 and is being funded with a £3,000 grant from the North Somerset Find Your Talent initiative.

There will be different sessions, including dance and drama and guitar and drum lessons, all taught by professional tutors.

Although the sessions for drumming and guitar are fully booked, there are still spaces on the keyboards, singing and dancing workshops.

Portishead Youth Centre senior youth worker Alan Rowe said: "This is a really exciting project which will run through the summer holidays. The response to it so far has been amazing but there are still a few places left on various workshops and anyone interested needs to sign up quickly."

The Rock School finale on August 26 will involved the students putting on a performance. Entry to the event is free and the doors open at 7pm.

Anyone wanting to sign up to the Rock School will have to pay a £5 registration fee.

Anyone wanting more information about the Rock School should contact the centre on 01275 584 2461.
