Friday, July 03, 2009, 07:00

Sally Knights, head of the classics department at Redland High School, has published a GCSE textbook on classical civilisation.

The book was commissioned by the Oxford University Press and has taken a year to complete. It is an introduction to the life and culture of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, with discussions of classical texts, and sections on education, the position of women, religion and myth and everyday life in Pompeii, co-written with James Renshaw.

It comes with a CD of selections from Homer and Ovid read by David Oakes, a former Bristol Old Vic Theatre School student.

Ms Knights is now writing a CD Rom in the same series, this time for A- level students.
