Fun for all at Big P in Hartcliffe and Withywood

Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 07:00

A fun event for children called The Big P is taking place in Hartcliffe and Withywood this week.

Play activities will centre around the Core Centre in Hareclive Road, Willmott Park and Moxham Drive from today until Friday.

There'll be big fun for little ones in the soft play area in Hartcliffe Early Years Centre, wannabe Chris Bonningtons can try their hand on the climbing wall at the Core Centre and there is a host of other fun activities, including a football tournament, art and drama sessions, creature corner and outside play organised by all eight play rangers from across the city.

The Big P culminates in a carnival procession on Friday afternoon, which will set off from the Core Centre, wind its way through the park and go down Moxham Drive, which will be closed for the day.

An award ceremony on Friday will celebrate the achievements of local residents volunteering in events and there will be awards for young people who have done well at local sports clubs, such as those for boxing and angling.

Extended Schools Partnership manager Les Fry said: "It's a celebration of everything that's happening in this community. It's going to be a great event for local young people; there's something for everyone from seven months to 17.

"What's great is that we've managed to pull a great event together without any external funding, thanks to all the different agencies who are coming together and offering what they can do for local children and young people."

The Big P has been organised by Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Partnership Play Strategy group and the S4 Extended Schools Partnership.

All events are free and take place from 10am to 3pm.
