Bristol Rovers young gun Joe White returns to Yate Town

Friday, August 21, 2009, 11:30

Yate Town have been given a big lift just one week into the season with the signing of Bristol Rovers striker Joe White.

The youngster, son of legendary Rovers and Swindon Town frontman Steve White, has moved to Lodge Road on a one-month loan deal and will spearhead the club's attack, starting with tomorrow's match away to Windsor, Slough & Eton

"Joe was at Yate for three months last season but was used more in midfield whereas Paul Trollope wants him to play up front," explained Yate manager Dave Mogg.

"That's what we want and we are delighted to have him back. Joe works hard, has a great attitude and hopefully things will go well for him and us."

Also joining the Yate squad, which boasted eight new players in last week's opening day win over AFC Hayes, is Winterbourne midfielder Mark Hughes.

"We are going to give him the opportunity and see whether he is up to it," added Mogg.

Ashley Derrick is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat at Thatcham Town.

Paulton Rovers have also taken a Bristol Rovers player on loan with defender James Tyrell joining the club.

"With Paul Milsom not quite match-fit and Alex Ball away doing his coaching badges, I feel we needed to strengthen our defence and James is a quality player and we are grateful to Rovers and Paul Trollope for letting him come here," said Paulton boss Andrew Jones.

Jones has also confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Steve Perrin will take over the gloves from Kyle Phillips, who dislocated his shoulder playing cricket last weekend.

"Steve is also signed on for Bath City as cover, but he played for us in Tuesday's win at Taunton Town and will be in the side this weekend and for Monday's big match against Mangotsfield United."

Mangotsfield United manager Phil Bater believes the return of Jack Allward will be a major boost to the club this season.

"I had a chat with Jack in the summer when he was at Bath City and nothing happened, but then the opportunity came up again and he signed for us at on Tuesday and played in the 2-2 draw against Bridgwater Town," said Bater.

"He's a real athlete and I remember him well from his days at Bristol City when he was a very good footballer."

Allward will be in the squad for tomorrow's visit of newcomers Frome Town, but winger Jason Wood, who also joined Mangotsfield this week, is not available as he recently signed for Chippenham Town.

"Southern League rules state you cannot sign for two clubs within 14 days, so Jason won't be able to play until we face Hungerford Town on September 5."

Lee Collier is out for two months with an ankle injury suffered on the opening day at Bedfont Green, but new striker Tom Knighton made his comeback with two goals for the reserves on Wednesday and comes into the squad.

Sent off on the opening day, Craig Loxton is still available for Clevedon Town's match at Bashley and the Stourbridge game next Tuesday.

"It was the first time Craig has been sent off in his career and I feel the referee made the wrong decision. Now we will have to suffer the consequences," said Clevedon boss Nick Tucker.

"He was our best player against Tiverton on Wednesday (0-0 draw) and we want two more big games from him now."
