Archbishop in Bristol for national conference

Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 07:00

The Archbishop of Canterbury spent the day at Bristol Cathedral.

Dr Rowan Williams visited the cathedral, in College Green, to take part in a national conference yesterday.

The conference, organised by the Bristol branch of the Anglican movement Affirming Catholicism, included a lecture given by Dr Williams, a service and a panel discussion.

The theme of the event was Catholic and Evangelical: Two sides of the same coin?

It was the first time in several years that an Archbishop has visited the cathedral.

Canon Precentor of the Cathedral, Canon Wendy Wilby, said: "We are very pleased to see him here.

"Everyone was looking forward to his visit.

"Being the head of the church, it is such a unique opportunity for us to meet him and rub shoulders with him."
