Show was an education for children involved
I am writing in response to the letter sent to the Post by Freddie and Anne Gallichan ("Stand up against sickness sweeping Britain", April 6).
My son appeared in the Sex Education vs Pornography show, along with many of his friends.
Firstly, I would like to confirm that, as parents, we were consulted, in depth, by Channel 4 executives weeks prior to the filming.
I think the Gallichans have completely missed the point of the show.
In my opinion, the show highlighted how children have easy access to pornography via computers and mobile phones. This, in turn, gives them an unrealistic view of sex and sexual activity.
The show did not promote or glamorise pornography, in fact, quite the opposite. It made my son and others realise that what they might have viewed in the past is not the real world, and that we come in all different shapes and sizes.
It would be quite easy to bury our heads in the sand and ignore what is happening in the world today, but we need to open our eyes and educate our children in a way which will interest them and provoke debate. There will always be prudish people to complain about this sort of show.
I am very proud of my son for taking part and I would like to thank the head teacher of Hanham High for deciding to get involved in the show.
Martin Parr, Hanham.
