Man appears in court over Bristol stabbings

A man has appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court charged with stabbing nine people and attempting to stab two police officers.

Stanley Bailey, of Goulter Street, Barton Hill, is charged with nine counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and two counts of attempted unlawful wounding with intent to cause GBH.

He also faces a single charge of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a red Swiss Army knife.

The court heard the alleged stabbings took place on Monday on the Bristol to Bath cycle track at Lawrence Hill.

Bailey, 54, was remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, August 25.
