“If they are stopped to buy doughnuts, yes. If they are attending a crime, no.”

“Unless they're dealing with an urgent crime they should obey the law like everyone else. I've seen officers parked without displaying a parking ticket when they have just been doing training.”

    “@Cabot,

But they are on training? Where's the logic in it? We pay tax, they use tax to pay parking fee, which means its returned to the tax fund and reduces police budget.

It's the same reason why people say tax on petrol for Ambulances etc should be waived, it defies logic for tax to be used to pay tax!”

“They SHOULD be reminded that they are paid to uphold the law not to take advantage of the position they hold. However WHO will 'police' them? (other police, give me a break!) Also WHO will pay for the bill? - 1 guess....yes your right 'The Taxpayer' of course. So net result police carry on as they are, leaving us to hope that there enough good one's with integrity.”

“When I had a company car if I got a parking ticket I had to pay not the Company.
If the Police are not on a call ie stopped to go in a shop cafe etc then yes book them and the officer has to pay himself.”

    “Why are tickets issued?
Because parking in restricted areas is dangerous/obstructs traffic flow.
Should the police risk public safety at any time by parking illegally?
    No.
Therefore, damn right they should get a ticket.”

“Tickets are issued to generate income for the Local Authority.

As a public service, a Local Authority should not be charging Emergency vehicles for parking.”

“I have a permit to park outside my house does that mean i have to give up my parking space or drive round the block until the police officer is off of his break, unless its there juty call they should have to pay same as everyone else, remember they would be quick to inforce it if u kick off with the parking attendant and inpound your car fair play to the parking attendant on gloucester rd because u never know he might of been on a doughnut break,is it ok for a police officer to park on- zig zag yellow lines outside a school NO so abide by the laws you give out.”

“If they are on a break yes, I used to own a cafe and two certain police officers used to come in for their lunch and park on double yellows outside, if they are on a call out then no. I think a lot of police think they are above the law bit they should obey the law or receive the same penalties as us, if they are speeding without being on a call they should get a ticket, trouble is how do you prove if they are on a call or just rushing back for lunch? One police officer got caught speeding on a road near me and said he was testing the car cause it was new and got away with it, "oh sorry I was doing 30mph over the limit officer bit I was testing my car cause its new" "oh ok sir, on your way". I don't think so, it seems there's one rule for one and another rule for another.”

“I've seen police cars plenty of times stop to buy lunch/dinner, park on double yellow lines (and/or pavement) when there was a free parking space in plain view just up the road. If they're too idle/lardar**ed or unobservant (surely not?!) to park properly, yes they should be disciplined. I politely reported a car for going the wrong way into a short stretch of one-way street, & parking, because it was handy for a takeaway. I mentioned it to the guys, and their response was, "but it's not far". I got stopped and lectured at length by two of these soppy bast**ds once for driving some 20 yards along the hard-shoulder part of a slip-road, to escape a huge tailback onto a motorway - just common sense, and as I thought 'not far', but apparently it depends what sort of car you're driving. And please nobody talk of the Police's advanced driving standards, any number of fatal crashes round the country suggests their famed traing doesn't count for much.”
