“About time! The KISS principle applies to democracy as well, even more local democracy. People should vote the whole council in or out, then give councillors enough time to actually do something in the constellation voted for, then either kick them out or vote them back in depending on how they did. Simples, no?
The current system resulted in ever-changing majorities, coalitions and leaders. Luckily that'll be gone to some extent once we have a proper elected mayor, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed.”

“WHY bother electing any councillors anyway ,despite everybody over the age of 18 having a democratic right to elect the councilor of their choice, standing in their ward.Once elected they are mandated by us to make decision on what to allow or not to allow in our City. So how is it that just one objector, who may or may not have even went to the trouble of voting, can over rule decision made democratically by said councillors, because that has happened when the council ruled on planing permission on a high profile case.So it does not matter how often or if all wards elect on the same day, when their decisions can be so easily overturned.”

“A consultation has been launched on how often there should be councillor elections in Bristol.
Views are being sought on whether there should be a change to whole council elections every four years starting in May 2013, or retain the existing system of 'elections by thirds'.
Information is available at http://tinyurl.com/d84fdeb providing background information, the arguments for both electoral cycles and the opportunity for people to give their views online.
What do you think?”
