“A vast sum of money has been spent this year building an Olympic size swimming pool in Hengrove, not sure where this money came from but it seems questionable that this money could be found when there are several swimming pools in Bristol already whilst the Ice rink has been aloud to crumble. Both my daughters are regular skaters at the rink and have skated in other much smaller towns such a Oxford, Basingstoke, Swindon and Guilford that boast modern ice rinks. I understand that the present facility is unviable due to the state of the building but I think Bristol should have a modern facility that should be established before the existing one goes. Any one interested in a campaign.”

“My daughter skates there every week and is devasted. There must be a way of keeping it open while plans for a new rink are devised. It is used by hockey teams, synchro teams and many more. Perhaps Robin Cousins would be interested in helping - he would not be where he is today without the Bristol Rink.”

“The impending closure of the ice rink must be devastating - it is so hard to fathom for a Canadian, living in a city of 45,000 that has seven ice rinks plus outdoor ones as well. Bristol was the first city in England where Canadians played organized hockey that was ot military in contest - I hope many of you who are concerned are at least supporting the Frogmore Street venue - is there no availability for public skating there? Bristol has such a long history in both hockey and figure skating, and there must be a way to keep this tradition going. I'm too far away to help - but my thoughts are with you. So many of our local players have played in your English National league. Maybe Richie Hargreaves of the Pitbulls has some ideas. Maybe beer companies can chip in for a public skating facility. “Typical Bristol Council to close Ice Venue and build student accommodation. That show just how greedy they are they don't you people of Bristol willnot soon have anything decent entertainment Venues. They even stop the Arena so big events could be held there at Templemeads now this. This City now heading backwards and will evently have nothing in the city for entertainment. Time we Bristolians got rid of this Council and get a decent Council will look after us and give us what we want”

“I would love us to have a really pro-active local council, by now we would have already had a new ice rink, along with 2 new football stadiums, a world class airport at Filton and an Arena to be proud of.
All these remain dreams, we are just allowing Cardiff to overtake us when really we should be the premier city in this part of the UK”

“Top marks to the council for a change, the student accomodation being built in some other area than the one I live in, you may scream that I am a NIMBY however when you live amongst the "SCUMBAG STUDENT POPULATION" you soon realise a good thing when you see it, with any luck the students from my locale will move to yours where there was once a run down building which housed an ice rink then that will give you something to complain about.”

“By the way to all those who have their heads in dreamland, have you ever read or heard the saying
"POWER CORRUPTS" politicians will promise to give you your dreams if you elect them, and when they are elected
the opposite happens, even your very best respected friends, if they were elected to power would let you down so dream on.”

“I have heard this one on the grapevine. Another example of our fundamentally incompetent council and one more of our already meagre facilities gone. This in a year that sees the UK host the Olympics - how very sad that Bristol falls behind even more. I don't have a problem with the redevelopment but I do object to the lack of a replacement. I know that this one has been coming for a while - the building was opened in 1966 and has not been maintained well - but it is my understanding that the council have been asked many times for a purpose built facility - perhaps the right palms were not greased sufficiently. Why is it that Bristol always seems to be lacking quality facilities despite its relative wealth? The members of our council may be fat, lazy and incompetent but we would like the opportunity to stay active, fit and healthy. Can the council confirm when a new facility will be built - or are they all too busy spending their expenses?”
