“smart4us,
You have to understand that to turn the lights off when the gates are locked allows yobs to have a better chance to destroy the parks.
People demand less tax, less government spending. It takes a lot less to have lights on than to have officers on the road. A light doesn't have a family to feed, rent to pay and therefore, it works for much less than a policeman. Also, it may give a chance for a salary raise to those on the Bristol City Council because of the money saved.
Simple economics. It takes much less to pay a benefit to someone not working than to actually give him a chance to earn a living.
When people demand less government and taxes they get exactly what they ask for.
If the lights are turned off the next complaint would be for more patrols to stop those destroying the parks.
With the lights on and traffic lights operating whilst the parks are closed, those who are stopped will have a chance to see the yobs tearing the park apart and can use their cell phones to notify the authorities.
That is a double benefit because they will be stopped and won't be endangering lives driving whilst talking on their cell.”

“YOBS do not care if it is a "Car Park," Animal Park, or any other type of Park. They want places to paint grafitti, use dope (why do you think they call it "dope?) and do other damage. The fence, lighting and locked gates, whilst possibly not a deterrent, most likely do help keep them out.
Another bonus, the Council staff, when they arrive in the morning, will not have to pick up broken bottles, drug needles, trash and discarded spray paint cans.
I am almost certain, if there were no lights, gates, etc. there would be damage done or homeless sleeping there. Maybe that would be a good place to suggest for the "Occupy" people to use to get out of the rain and weather at night.
I agree, lets take down the fence, turn off the lights. Then we can see how long before the damage begins...”

“I think you are confused. This is a news website not the Bristol City Council. Have you tried asking them?”
