“I agree that an Elected Mayor would be advantageous for the Greater Bristol Area.
It will be virtually impossibe to elect someone without them either having strong political views or at least the academic intelligence to see the bigger picture.
Whoever stood for the job, male or female would have to have a strong personality and the motivational skills to make it work.
It would not be an easy choice for the voters, especially if they wanted someone with local connections.”

“The council is closely linked to the Bristol 10K road race, which is slapping a £3 "administration fee" on online entries for 2012. In effect a price hike of ~13% over paper/form based entries.
This is not because of the online entry firm (frs systems) as, for example, the identical system at runGlasgow.org (also frs systems) gives up to 15% discount for online entry!
The only possible reason is that more people will enter on line and so a price hike can be slapped on. Is the Council happy to be linked to this?”

“I thought the same (WHAT 'consultation'?) when I read her comments in the Evening Post. I'd be in favour of a mayor for one, I know others that would certainly agree.
Then again, Janke's initial comments published here opposing the plan for a mayor were amazingly hypocritical and self serving, I guess it doesn't surprise me that much that a consultation has conveniently taken place without informing anyone.”

“"But the plans were on display ..."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a flashlight."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."”
