Our cycle trails are riding high
BRISTOL mayor George Ferguson celebrated the first anniversary of a pair of cycle trails in Ashton Court and Leigh Woods yesterday.
The council chief attended an event at the Ashton Court Golf and Cycle Centre 12 months after the popular Nova and Yer Tiz trails were opened.
The new hard-stoned paths have attracted 12,000 cyclists a month, according to the council, covering half a million miles in total.
A keen cyclist and former architect, Mr Ferguson praised the design of the adventurous cycle tracks. He said: "I hear it's impossible to get bored of these routes, so varied is the mix of routes and obstacles. It's great to see this fantastic setting used for healthy enjoyable pursuits.
