TRAFFIC was halted on the Clifton Suspension Bridge yesterday as former England footballer Gary Lineker filmed his latest Walkers Crisps advert.

News of the Match of The Day pundit's appearance in Bristol caused excitement across social media sites, with many users posting pictures.

The 52-year-old former Tottenham, Barcelona and Leicester City striker had been more vague about his location, tweeting yesterday morning: "Filming a Walkers crisps commercial in the West Country. Left a packet of cheese and onion at home for Valentines."

The suspension bridge was not shut for filming of the new Walkers "home grown" advert, which took place from 10am to 2pm yesterday – but was simply closed for five-minute intervals, while Mr Lineker drove a vintage tractor from one side to the other.

After traffic built up each time, filming was stopped and started again once queues had died down.

Wearing a baseball cap, a black jacket and a checked shirt Mr Lineker drove the tractor back and forth six times. A truck with cameras on board captured the scene, as well as a helicopter which hovered overhead.

Mr Lineker has fronted the Walkers ads since 1995. A spokeswoman said: "The latest ad from Walkers comes as the nation's favourite crisp brand announces that the flavours people know and love now include delicious home grown ingredients sourced from British farms and producers."

One of 11 flavours from Walkers' "core range" will feature premium cheddar cheese from Somerset in the cheese and onion flavour.

It is believed he was going on to film at a farm in Winscombe, North Somerset, yesterday afternoon.

The new Walkers "home grown" TV advert is due to air nationwide on Friday, March 8.
