A week-long creative arts event has started at the Paintworks Exhibition Space in Brislington.

The Expressions 2009 event has been organised by Bristol charity Aspects and Milestones Trust, which supports people with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

The event will run until Saturday, October 10, and includes an art exhibition, a music concert featuring a reggae, ska and blues band made up of people with learning disabilities, drama performances, poetry and workshops.

Mel Akers, the trust's chief executive, said: "This week is all about exploring and celebrating the role of art in our lives. Many of our service users are incredible artists and the exhibition will feature an astonishing range of paintings, sculpture and audio visual work as well as music, drama and creative writing. We want people to come along and enjoy the material, but also to join in the 'have a go' activities."

The exhibition runs from 11am to 5pm Wednesday to Friday this week and from 11am to noon on the Saturday.

For a full programme and booking details for the concert, workshops and other activities, please contact David Allford on 01179 709300.
