Our confidence levels are rising, says Bristol Rovers skipper Matt Gill

Skipper Matt Gill insists the belief is back at Bristol Rovers after the side's upturn in form.

The Pirates have reversed their worrying slide down the table with an impressive run that has seen them take ten points from the last 12 in an unbeaten four-game spell.

And midfielder Gill says it is important the improvement continues in Saturday's clash at Aldershot.

"It's a good run and confidence levels are rising among the boys," said Gill.

"We have a platform to build from and the lads are looking forward to Saturdays now.

"We can go into games looking to win them and, if we can do it at Aldershot, it will be three away victories on the spin."

Rovers' latest success came in their 2-1 win over Bradford last weekend, which made it two victories in a row under new boss Mark McGhee.

"The lads really dug in during the second half and earlier on in the season, I'm not sure we'd have seen the game out," said Gill.

"Belief is coming back in the boys and you could tell that in the second half – we believed we were going to win the game and we did. Everybody worked really hard right the way through the team.

"Defensively we look a lot stronger and better than we have done and that's shown with a couple of clean sheets recently. The gaffer has made sure we are stronger with and without the ball.

"Our pitch isn't that great at the minute, but we just have to deal with it.

"We still managed to play some good football in the first half and pass the ball about.

"Now we have an away game coming up where I would imagine the pitch is going to be better – and, hopefully, that will suit us."

The Bradford game was Gill's first start since he underwent knee cartilage surgery in late November.

"It was really nice to be involved again and getting the win was the most important thing," he said.

"I'd had a bit of swelling after the playing in a reserve game last week, which was a little worrying.

"But the gaffer chose to start me and I managed the full 90 minutes, although in and ideal world I think he would probably have given me an hour. But I felt fine afterwards."

Rovers have had a lengthy casualty list in recent weeks, but hope leading scorer Matt Harrold and Joe Anyinsah could be back in contention for Saturday's game away to Aldershot.

"There are a lot of injuries at the moment and we started the Bradford game with a midfielder up front and a right-back playing at left-back," said Gill.

"But if we win games with people out injured and others playing out of position, then it's a positive thing.

"Some, like Matt, are on the way back now and that means everybody will be fighting for their places, which can only be good for the team."

Torquay will sign trialist Nathan Craig until the end of the season. The midfielder, 20, has spent the past two weeks being assessed by the Gulls and has impressed enough to extend his stay until May.

Oxford defender Liam Davis has signed a new deal with the club until 2013. The 25-year-old left-back joined the club following his release from Northampton this summer.

Burton have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Aaron Webster could be out for around two months with a hamstring tear.

“Feb will be really interesting. Hope we can get the injuries sorted. When we do we'll have some interesting selection headaches and a great bench.

And we still need to give credit to North, and the players, (plus MM) for 10 points out of 12. If we hadn't got them we'de be on the verge of relegation places. I shudder when i even think of that!!”

    “Matt G

and my belief in you too is rising. Dont fear the Sunday tables as much now and with new signings hopefully we can push on and upwards. The next 6 games will define the rest of our season I would love to be on the playoff area but security has to be the first target.”
