Bristol bangers are magic for magician Paul Daniels
This week is British Sausage Week, and the couple are touring the country to find the nation's best banger.
The nine finalists in yesterday's competition had been picked from hundreds of entrants to compete at the event, held at the Clifton Sausage restaurant in Portland Street.
The winner was Ivan Thompson, who runs The Sausage Shed at Stembridge, near Martock in Somerset.
He received a Banger Award and £150 to donate his preferred charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
His winning entry was a pork and orange marmalade banger.
Ivan said: "I was really surprised and delighted to win. I never imagined I'd get this far when I submitted my entry a few weeks ago
"Like the witch's cauldron the secret's in the recipe, the ingredients and the mixing.
"It was great to meet Paul and Debbie, and be a part of British Sausage Week 2009."
Paul said the judging process was very serious, and that the couple drank plenty of water between bites to cleanse their palates.
He said: "The standard of entries has been so high this year that it was truly difficult to pick just one winner from the finalists.
"Having said that, the pork and orange marmalade sausage was absolutely delicious, and truly is the magical banger for the South West".
Debbie said: "Sausages are part of our heritage. That is why Paul and I are really excited to take part in British Sausage Week.
"People should buy British, and keep British farmers going." Organised by The British Sausage Appreciation Society, British Sausage Week celebrates the diversity of the sausage, of which there are some 400 individually named varieties in Britain.
