Adrian Edmondson in Bristol for St George's birthday

Thursday, October 15, 2009, 07:00

Comic Adrian Edmondson said "Bottom's Up" to St George's Bristol, as the venue marked its tenth anniversary.

The star of Bottom and The Young Ones is now enjoying a music career with his punk-folk band The Bad Shepherds, and was invited to perform and cut a replica birthday cake at the former church in Clifton yesterday.

In his typically jokey manner, after pretending to stab Clifton Cakes' creation, he said: "I'm very pleased to be here...and I like cake."

He told the Bristol Evening Post: "It's an unusual venue, but I could tell as soon as I stepped inside it is run with enthusiasm and love."

Edmondson founded the band last year, and is lead singer and plays mandolin.

There was a round of applause when St George's director, Suzanne Rolt, announced funding of £171,000 has been pledged by the Arts Council.
