Shirehampton bounce back with Somerset County League win
Shirehampton put last week's nightmare 5-1 defeat at Somerset County League Premier Division leaders Cheddar behind them with a hard-fought 2-1 home win over rivals Backwell United.
Rich Hewitt's header put Shirehampton ahead in the 10th minute, but Backwell equalised with a penalty 10 minutes later.
Shire scored the winner three minutes from time when Rob Sage converted after an almighty scramble in the box.
Brislington Reserves' poor run continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Glastonbury Town.
Taylor Clark scored the Brislington goal.
Cutters Friday went down 3-2 at home to Winscombe after missing a host of chances.
Winscombe took the lead before Gavin Cabble levelled and Scott Saunders put Cutters 2-1 to the good.
However, Winscombe scored twice in two minutes before the break and rode their luck in the second half.
In Division One, leaders Stockwood Green were 3-2 home winners over Burnham United to open up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
Second-placed Clevedon United Reserves were held to a 3-3 draw at Langford Rovers.
Jason Smith, Chris Saunders and Nat Brown got the goals for Stockwood Green.
Fry Club were 4-0 winners at bottom-of-the-table Radstock Town Reserves, where Kevin Roper (2), Dan Davis and Ross Simpkins were on target.
